Do your life experiences shape you, or is there something more? I’d like to believe that there is so much more to you than your life experiences. Sure, the things that have happened in your life have had an effect on your desires, boundaries, relations, creations, and how you move forward in your life. Yet, there is a part of you that is so much more than what has happened in your life. This part of you whispers to you when you are feeling sad that everything is ok. This part of you sometimes just knows exactly what to do when a question is raised in your life. This part of you is your spirit.

Your spirit is here to have an experience. A human being experience. That might mean exploring a variety of circumstances, events, navigating through beautiful life experiences, or gaining a better understanding of letting things go.

It is not just in this lifetime either. You’ve lived many lifetimes. Perhaps you were a poet, a knight, a bread maker. Perhaps you lived when dinosaurs ruled the planet, during the Renaissance, or at the start of humanity.

There may have been many things you liked in your past lives. You may even find you have a strong, undefined, affinity for something in this lifetime. This could be a new city that feels like home, a style of music or culture that resonates deeply within you, or an artistic trade you find you are a natural at in your life.

For me, I am drawn to paper and pen. As I cruise Japanese bookstores, stationary stores, and art stores, I joyfully laugh with my friends saying, “I must have been a washi maker or paper maker or a penturner in a past life because I really love this!”. Seriously, I really do geek out over pen and paper - and they are not all the same!

What are you drawn to in your life? Now, consider for a moment that your affinity for some things in your life is learned, while for other things, it is a part of the history of your past lives. All these lifetimes have led to this moment. You’ll likely have many more lifetimes to explore, learn, grow, and find new things you have an affinity for as well.
